From the Age: The truth hurts! Ximena: Kungfounded (Arg)
Out of the mouths of the babes! In our experience, when it comes to the dirty games of politics it is often what is not said that is more interesting about resignations of public figures.
A writer to the Age had this to say about Evan Thornley´s resignation from the ALP Brumby Government:
"once elected I realised I actually wasn´t going to get anywhere with these bozos. Unlike Peter Garrett, Cheryl Kernot, Mary Delahunty et al, he hasn´t waited till he´s rendered useless by the mates´party machine".
Will the Brumby become a Carp and get washed away out to sea at the next election?
There is something fishy about party politics and the machine. Just ask Alan Carps in Western Australia. Factional deals, number games and shifting goal posts all lead to the undermining of participatory democracy. Memory is a strange thing in politics. You´d think the major parties would remember the demise of the Democrats.
By the time Nat the Spot Destroyer got control of the party not even God could save them.
Mind you, the mates´s machine makes sure that anyone who serves two terms or 12 years in the Senate gets to retire on a handy AU$80,000ish pension. At least in the minor parties, those that perform only smoke and mirrors or who fail to engage with the electorate usually get sent to bed with fat cat!
What is interesting to think about is the question: Just how long will it take before the Victorian people decide they are fed up with controversial water planning, an antiques roadshow transport system, and state managed underfunded hospitals that are being publically accused of causing 500 deaths per year? Which state or Territory will be the 2nd to elect a Coalition Government?
