Fagmedia.com: Noticias Indepiendentes y Opiniones para la communidad queer, endorses the call for the resignation of the Victorian ALP Minister for Health made by Helen Shardey MLA, Liberal Shadow Minister for Health and published here.

"The Health Minister should take full responsibility and resign in the wake of the cover up in our health system, Shadow Minister for Health Helen Shardey said today".

We deserve honest Government!
We deserve honest Government!

"It appears from the Minister's consistent denials that he is more concerned with protecting his own job than uncovering a scandal with the potential to compromise patient care," Mrs Shardey said".

Fagmedia has been following this matter and it is clear that there is significant evidence to support the fact that this Ms Shardey´s call is in the best interests of all Victorians.

On March 13, 2009 the Age printed that an Angliss Hospital Doctor, Andrew Buck "said staff were routinely shifting patient figures to meet government benchmarks for bonus payments and referred to a culture of fear that prevented doctors from talking about the real state of the health system".

On March 19, 2009 the Age stated that "hospitals are falsly improving their performance by removing patients from waiting lists under the guide of a "patient initiated deferral" - when patients had in fact made no such request"... Last Year an Australasian College of Emergency department doctors showed almost 40% of hospitals claimed to have admitted patients when they were still in waiting rooms, corridors or lying on trolleys".

On March 20 2009, in the Age, "For 8 months Mr Andrews has publicly refused to investigate doctor´s allegations of hospitals maniplulating data to obtain bonus funding from the government and to avoid punitive measures."

The following Quotes were printed on April 2nd 2009 in the Herald Sun: "5 years of hell seeking surgery in state´s hospitals, 2356 died waiting"... The tragedy for the people of Victoria is that this "revelation comes as the scandal plagued state hospital system is hit with accusations of widespread delays and official manipulation of vital partient data".

"It was revealed this week that almost 2000 patient records were manipulated to improve the Royal Women´s Hospitals performance statistics in a decade long rort by staff to get more state funding".

And it must be noted that there are considerable negative Consequences for Victoria. Mr Andrews "admitted that without believable data, it may be hard to ensure that Victoria gets its share of the Federal Government´s planned $64.4 Billion health spending over the next 5 years".

Worse, the Age on 3 April has another story that criticises the handling of a case by Victorian Welfare Agencies.

Are the Streets Safe?
Are the Streets Safe?

Fagmedia´s point is that After 10 Years of ALP "Rule" in Victoria there is no-one to blame AND it is clear in Victoria the trains don´t work, the education system is falling apart and worst of all no-one we have spoken to, who has been a patient in a Victorian hospital, has had a good experience.

We will continue to have bad leadership until "we the people" lose our apathy, drop our fixations on consuming, our pursuit of the good time, get involved in politics by asking questions and participate in the political process.

And finally, we agree, with Ms Shardey who said, "There is something seriously wrong with a government that lies and misrepresents."

Is Ms Shardey right? Well you judge for yourself!

In The Age Saturday April 4, 2009 states "National secretary of the Health Services Union Kathy Jackson said she met Mr Andrews in his office last January and informed him of incorrect data reported by hospitals... Health Minister Daniel Andrews claims he didn´t know about the issues, Ms Jackson wrote in the Age. That´s not true, I sat in his office more than a year ago and told him all about it".

From the same article: Deputy Coalition Leader Peter Ryan on Andrews. "Ms Jackson´s announcements today destroy his credibility".

Fagmedia believes that in order to protect the integrity of the Position of Health Minister, Mr Andrews should resign IMMEDIATELY.

Remember your vote does matter so THINK about who you will give the tick to! We recognise that many GLBTIQ organisations uphold a traditional support for the ALP BUT Fagmedia believes that good policy, such as concrete support for Same Sex Relationship Recognition, should determine who gets your vote!

Times Up for the ALP?
Times Up for the ALP?
